I used Alphonse Mucha's work "Summer" as kind of style guide for what I'd like the cover to look like.

Then we photographed our lovely friend, Julia.

Sue then made the initial sketches...

Sue spent a lot of time on color.
|
A close up of one of the flowers and berries.
|
But every bit makes the painting more 3 dimensional. Outlines will tighten everything.

If you look close, you can see the resist in the tan parts
|
They make up the beginings of bone of creatures in the background.
|
Some of the coloring takes shape. MUCH more to come...

Now the shading gets more critical...

and happens in small increments, which have to dry before the next bit.

More color. The lines will come last.

The skeletons were done as a resist.
