Ecstasy in the Ruins

Throughout human history, civilizations have come and gone. What saves us from having to literally re-invent the wheel are the people who keep the arts alive. I imagine someone held a torch for the painters in Lascaux. Un-named, Secret Librarians hid books from the book burners and saved them for the future. Monk Scribes copied books that would have disappeared. Forward thinking people of all ranks, great patrons, created libraries, museums, platforms for art and kept the expression of art and ideas alive beyond their creators, even while the world around them was somtimes in ruin.

So here we are again, maybe - who knows where this vastly conflicted world is going? But we still find joy in the sunlight, something to celebrate as the walls fall around us.

We've managed to record 7 records, with the help of people like you, totally outside the music industry / label system. I've had soldiers tell me that our music was the thing that kept them sane in a year in the desert. I've had people tell me that our music was the thing that got them through chemo. I've had people tell me that we inspired them to find the courage to move out of a crazy or unfulfilling life. People like you made it possible for us to record music that does that.

Isabella d'Este (1479-1539) was the daughter of the duke of Ferrara and wife of Francesco Gonzaga, marquis of Mantua. She was the most important female patron of Renaissance, sponsoring philosophers, poets, and painters, such as Titian, Raphael, Giovanni Bellini, and Leonardo Da Vinci. Who knows if anyone will even remember Bone Poets in 50 years, much less 500, but I hope we're doing something that is right enough that you think it should be out in the world. $500.00

Ludwig I was an eccentric patron of the arts in Germany. He is alleged to be the first of the major patrons to finance art that was not based on his personal taste. His legacy is in the huge museums in Munich and all over Germany. A $2500 donation would record almost three songs - or two with a couple of arrangemenst that will require extra guest musicians. (Crossing the Border, Walls Are Falling, Guru) That would be a gift of Ludwigian proportions!
